Stonehenge Essays - Wiltshire, Stonehenge, Henges, Free Essays

Stonehenge Essays - Wiltshire, Stonehenge, Henges, Free Essays Stonehenge Stonehenge is one of the universes most popular landmarks of the old occasions. Stonehenge represented more than 5,000 years, and still we don't have the foggiest idea about the full utilization of this puzzling game plan of stones. Stonehenge stays as an old landmark that despite everything propose riddles to it inception and reason. From the outset, researchers had no idea regarding who constructed Stonehenge. The Romans, Egyptians, and the Phoenicians were totally recommended to have been a potential maker of Stonehenge. Later investigation demonstrated that none of these refined fabricated Stonehenge. Reality of Stonehenge is that three unique societies added to this massive landmark. The main gathering started development around 3100 B.C.. Neolithic herders started the initial phase in the development of Stonehenge. The initial segment of this landmark started as an unassuming round dump. Inside this circle 56 openings were burrowed. These opening, later named Aubrey Holes after their pioneer, introduced riddles to researchers for a considerable length of time. These abnormal gaps filled two needs. The first, and progressively significant explanation, is that these openings went about as a lunar calender. The moon has a cycle for its shrouds. When a lunar obscuration happens, another won't occur for a long time. After those nineteen years, the moon will, indeed, obscure. The following, and last, overshadowing of this cycle happens eighteen years after the past shroud. These years mean be fifty-six. Researchers accept that a stone was put in one opening in the circle. Every year, the stone would be moved to the following gap. Along these lines the antiquated individuals could monitor the moon. The other explanation has a bleak side to it. In a portion of the Aubrey openings, stays of people were found. These remaining parts were first incinerated, at that point put into the openings. This recommends Stonehenge could have gone about as an entombment site, and perhaps a sanctuary in which human penances were made. None of these speculations have been demonstrated, yet these reasons are the main achievable clarification to these openings. The subsequent period is what the most information can be found on. The subsequent period started at about 2100B.C.. The Beaker individuals, a gathering which loved the sun, added to the landmark its first huge stones. The main thing done is that any of the stones that were at that point there were expelled. Next, thirty huge stones were brought to the site. The stones, each gauging great more than five tons, were to go about as the mainstays of the new landmark. These stones were called the Sarsen Stones, originating from what they are made of. These stones, in any case, are just 66% over the ground. The other third is covered to shield the gigantic column from toppling over. The Beaker individuals made two concentric circles, the internal circle estimating seventy four meters in measurement, and the external circle eighty six meters. The external circle was later named the Sarsen Circle. The internal circle was rarely finished, and nobody has any proof with regards to why. Apparently they simply halted, without tidying up or evacuating any of the old stones. Some guess that the task was to enormous that it appeared to be inconceivable the Beaker individuals. The third time frame started at around 1550 B.C.. The Wesset culture was going to add their touch to the developing landmark. The Wesset culture chose to destroy crafted by the Beaker individuals, yet settled on a comparable plan. They chose to build a hover around a similar point the Beaker individuals utilized for their circle. On every column, be that as it may, a huge rectangular stone was put, with each side laying on neighboring columns. This made a consistent hover all around the landmark. Rather than a littler hover inside the bigger circle, the Wesset culture put a basic pony shoe. The pony shoe, similarly as the enormous circle, was topped with enormous rectangular stones. Given the separation they needed to travel, this introduced a serious transportation problem.(Lacy, www.britannia.com/travel/mysterious/magic12.htm). The issue of getting the stones to the structure site was enormous enough to prevent a great many people from endeavoring such a venture. There were to ways used to convey the enormous stones to the structure site. The first was via land. Goliath trucks were developed to convey the littler stones. The stones were stacked

SansCulotte Essays - French Revolution, Clothing, Albert Soboul

SansCulotte Force inside the Paris areas of 1792-94 - its social organization, elements, and philosophy - .(1) That is what was investigated in the book The Sans-Culotte. Albert Soboul depicts and traces the arrangement and exercises of the various segments in Paris during Revolutionary France. Soboul portrays the exercises of these segments as a well known development by the individuals of Paris. He clarifies how the individuals of Paris joined to frame distinctive sectional gatherings with their primary objective being to improve the lives of the center and lower class people in Paris, yet France completely. In The Sans-Culottes, Soboul clarifies in extraordinary detail the various ways these areas impacted law making and attempted to increase equivalent rights for all. Notwithstanding portraying the political action of the sans-culottes and different areas, Soboul likewise clarifies a portion of the military exercises and developments of these segments during the upset. Soboul's book has cons istently been idea as the principle expert on the areas in Paris, however in the mid 1980's, a study was composed on The Sans-Culottes and numerous things were seen as amiss with the book. In the basic assessment of Albert Soboul's The Sans-Culottes a full evaluate of the book happens and numerous issues with the book are brought up. The issues or deficiencies examined in the basic assessment extend from an absence of portrayal of the sans-culottes and different areas in Paris and mistakes in clarifying what kind of individuals established the enrollment of the segments, to a need a wide scope of value sources. The two issues in The Sans-Culottes that will be talked about in this paper are the absence of value sources and the absence of depiction of the segments and who established them. The absence of depiction of the areas in Paris is a significant flaw with the book. The study calls attention to that Soboul protuberances the entirety of the segments of Paris together while portraying them. He neglects to isolate them into precisely what they are: segments. The facts demonstrate that there were developments made to attempt to join all the areas, however this never turns into a reality so differentiation between segments ought to be appeared. Soboul makes no differentiations among ?quartiers' and areas, and between financial topographies and neighborhood politics.(2) Soboul's history of the segments from June, 1793 to sid-July, 1794 portrayed them evenly, en masse....(3) This lumping together of the segments drives one to the bogus end that segments were each of the one substance, however they were not; they were especially seperate. Soboul likewise drives the peruser to off base ends by calling the areas and sans-culottes a well known development. He much of the time offers this expression. Soboul portrays numerous adjustments in the approach of the segments that permit the lower class to join the congregations. A statement utilized by Soboul by Hanriot states, ?For quite a while, the rich made the laws, it is about time the poor made a few laws themselves and that correspondence should rule between the rich and the poor.'(4) This leads the peruser to accept that everybody was included effectively in the segments and that anybody could become pioneers of a sectional get together, however this was not the situation. The lower class, or plebeians, did next to no aside from what the pioneers let them or instructed them to do. As written in the evaluate: Their [plebeians] pressures were specifically diverted into legislative issues by the ?sans-culotte' leadership.... During the ?recovery' clashes of the spring and summer of 1793 by which ?sans-culottes' won authority sectionary power, plebeians showed up powerfully in the general gatherings - not as atomistic individual voters, yet as gatherings of laborers assembled by their ?sans-culotte' managers for brief muscle when voting forms were to be thrown by clench hands and feet.(5) This statement shows that the lower class, or plebeians, were simply lakes for the sans-culottes. They were allowed to cast a ballot when the pioneers felt the votes cast by the plebeians were important to accomplish triumph. The view one gets from the evaluate is absolutely opposing to that of Soboul's book. The speculation Soboul utilized while portraying the individuals from the segments can likewise prompt disarray on the perusers part. Soboul over and over depicts individuals as being a piece of a certain

Heat Is The Transfer Of Thermal Energy Between...

Heat is the transfer of thermal energy between substances. Thermal energy is the kinetic energy of moving particles of matter. If you go camping, you usually build a fire to sit around at night. Have you ever wondered why a marshmallow cooks without touching the flame, why the smoke rises, or why water in a pan boils? Heat can move from one object to another in three different ways: conduction, convection and radiation. Some sources of heat may include the following: the sun, friction, and the earth. Life on earth depends on the sun. The sun provides heat/light for the entire solar system. A person could generate a fire by rubbing two sticks together. The Earth contains much heat seep inside. Some of the heat escapes to the surface†¦show more content†¦Thermal energy radiates through air from a fire causing the fire’s energy to transfer to the marshmallow. As stated before, thermal conductor occurs when particles of warmer matter bump into particles of cooler matter and transfer some of their thermal energy to the cooler particles. Conduction is usually faster in certain solids and liquids than in gases. Returning to the example of a camp fire; what happens if you use an old metal hangar to roast hot dogs? As the hot dogs cooks, the fire heats the end of the hanger. If we leave the hanger in the fire long enough, eventually the end we are holding will become too hot for us to handle. The flames to the metal were transferred by the heat, and then from molecule to molecule in the hanger. Now, what would have happened if you had chosen a stick to roast your hot dog? Though the stick may have caught fire, it would not have conducted the heat to your hand. This is because wood is a very poor heat conductor. Heat insulators are materials that do not let heat move through them easily. They do not conduct heat well. Plastic, wood and some fabrics are good thermal insulators. Thermal insulators are good at keeping heat out and keeping heat in. A winter scarf is a good example of a thermal insulator. It stops the heat from your body escaping into the cold air. Temperature is defined as the average kinetic energy of the particles of matter. When

Internal hiring vs external hiring free essay sample

When an organization announces a vacancy or an open job position then it can be filled by either someone internally from the company already working in another position or externally by somebody who is new to the business. For this firms need to consider different methods of hiring and try to create a pool of potential candidates with relevant skill level. There are pros and cons to both internal and external hiring. In the current economic scenario, companies look cut costs by hiring within their four walls rather than from the outside. it has been estimated that cost on finding and hiring someone externally is 1. 7 times more than internal hiring. Furthermore, as per the research 40 to 60 percent of external hiring is unsuccessful as compare to 25% for internal. The trend of hiring from outside is no longer frequently practiced due to the tight economic situation. Through internal hiring the respect and morale in employees is increased by promoting them to higher positions. We will write a custom essay sample on Internal hiring vs external hiring or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page when given the chance to apply for the position the company is trying to appreciate the worker for her/his hard work and services to the company. internal candidates are usually accustomed to the culture of the organization, and the network is already well developed. Moreover, they tend to show loyalty towards the organization for a longer time period. The cost of internal hiring is significantly low as compare to external. Expenses like advertising the job, attending job fairs, working and recruitment agencies. Both money and time is saved on things like training, paperwork drug testing them with basics and unlike new employees they do not need adjustment periods to acclimate to the work environment and the transition for the person actively working into an open position is instant. Bernthal et al. (2001, p. 1) Argues that â€Å"Indirect costs from lost productivity and reduced morale can affect other parts of the organization†. According to weak economy is forcing recruitment budgets to be slashed and organizations are very economical with their resources. Instead of hiring from external means, they have discovered that internal recruiting is cost-effective and more sensible. It is a gamble every time a company hires an external employee. to avoid that companies these days focus more on internal hiring and position someone from inside the firm whom they know is capable, has the required work ethic and job skills. Jackson et al. (1987, p. 207-219) had researched and came up with some interesting statistics where they claimed that companies that staffed 20% of their top three levels through external hiring exceeded their expected return on investment by around 10%. On the other hand those who relied on internal fell short by 10%. Moreover, they said that one out of 5 top management jobs exceed execrated returns by 20% even in a declining industry. Recruiting a top manager internally or externally as compare to lower level workers or managers can effect organizations differently. Since selecting the right top manager is a critical decision, the staffing of top mangers has to be aligned with the nature of the business because different aspects of business require different behaviour. Anyim (2011, p. 37)Insists on the socio-psychological factors affecting staffing system and argues that when employees are moved internally they heighten morale and pose a challenge which serves as a motivation source for employees. When they put in a good number of years in a single organization, the employee then feel that they have stake in the firm which ultimately makes them more loyal and committed towards the cause of the organization. Gender also plays a role in these hiring processes. Cejka et al.  (1999, p. 413-423) discovered backed by few other researchers that gender in particular may play an important part in employer’s inferences when job positions correspond to gender stereo types. Bidwell (2014, p. 369-407) Is convinced that women are more likely to enter new positions or jobs through promotions rather than hiring and are less likely to get to higher levels of hierarchy through external recruitment but the author also points out that this study might have im plications for overall gender inequality. Another factor which is considered by the employers while hiring is the wage differences between external and internal recruited employees. Hassink et al. (2008, p. 715-730) States that a risky external worker receives a much higher wage than a safe internal candidate of equal ability or productivity. Much of study shows apparently that externally hired workers get payed more but in fact the difference in wage between external candidates from other employers and internal candidates disappears if we consider the workers observable characteristics. Bassi (2000, p. 22-23)has concentrated on a fairly new concern regarding staffing and states that in political context, internal movers can create and ginger hostile atmosphere as a result of political wrangling which external candidates can minimize it. Furthermore, he insists that external employees may take time to fullfill staffing needs when an organization opens new branches and market outlets as compare to internals who will be much faster in adapting to the administrative machinery. DeVries (1988, p.749-462), defines succession as board’s choice of an internal and external appointment can be affected not just by rational organizational requirements but also through hidden political and psychological factors. Conclusion: In conclusion, we cannot lean towards any single approach as to which one is better. Every industry has its own requirement and some companies might look at their existing employees as capable enough to be positioned in a new or higher position while so me firms might think a candidate recruited from external sources would suite more. The advantages and disadvantages were discussed above and if we analyse, I have come to a conclusion that both internal and external hiring have their pros and cons. The important factor is that either of the approaches can be practiced as long as it is well initiated, implemented and more importantly we have to assess whether it is aligned with the organization’s vision and its strategic objectives.

Although, I just thought that some similarities are still there. Both are about a woman: her desires and experiences, enthusiasm and downs, triumph and bitterness and if all these feelings in Stranger affect only her little world, in Mary Stuart, they change the course of history. Yeah, its hard to be a queen, and even a relative of the royal courts of Europe And in general, Zweig, as always, is great, and I personally would like, with some knowledge of the facts it reveals the nature of his characters, whether it is an ordinary woman or a queen. it is also important that the book is read to be surprisingly easy. It gives an opportunity to look with new eyes on historical events, learned the lessons of world history, and to discover their new meaning. The main drawback of this book, so it is something that everyone who has a little bit familiar with history is known beforehand isolation:)) And if it is serious, Mary Stuart by Stefan Zweig is certainly worthy, informative, but rather a specific product, the kind that an amateur. Push and pull factors in Syrian migration Assignment - 4

Push and pull factors in Syrian migration - Assignment Example About 100  000 refugees have also managed to get asylum in European countries. David Williams also concurs with this by stating that â€Å"An average of almost 5,000 Syrians are fleeing into neighbouring countries every day.† This has resulted in the officials warning of the need for more humanitarian aid to the support communities. Many Syrians have been forced out of their homes and ultimately their country as a result of raging war. There is no peace in this country as a result of the war and it is hardly possible to live in such a place. It can also be seen that homes and other necessary infrastructure have been destroyed as a result of this war. As a result, the Syrians are left with no option but to migrate to other areas that are believed to be safe. Many people who have migrated from the war torn Syria have sought refuge in neighbouring countries as well as other European countries. These people are often forced to seek asylum or refuge as a result of the fact that they are left with nowhere to stay after their homes have been destroyed in the raging civil war in their country. Some people are also encouraged to migrate to other destinations by the favourable conditions thought to exist there. However, not all of them find their lives rosy in these far away destinations such as Europe. Yardly Jim and Planigiani, Gaia aptly state that â€Å"Having risked their lives in hopes of settling in prospering Northern Europe, many Syrians found themselves trapped in the south, living illegally in Italy, hiding from the police, as they tried to sneak past border guards and travel north to apply for asylum.† There are some lucky ones who have successfully applied for refuge and some have found employment. As a result of tough European laws on migration as well as asylum seeking, many people have found themselves trapped in these far off destinations believed to be safe havens. The children as well as the education sector have not been spared by the

Plaease answer four questions that are in the assignment - Coursework Example The diarthrodial joint between the forearm and humerus allows a hinge movement with the help of their lubricating fluid for the adduction and abduction movements to be possible (Tortora, 2008). Part 2: As the individual drinks water, the liquid enters the mouth passing through the esophagus to the stomach. From the stomach, the water travels to the small intestines while it begins to be absorbed in the stomach through diffusion and osmosis. The water is carried to the blood stream to continue its travel to the renal system. It is filtered out of the blood because of gradient pressure and carried to the renal artery to reach the glomerulus. Leaving this body part, the blood’s next destination is the Bowman’s capsule. From here, the water traverses the kidney tubule to approach the collecting tubules. However, not all waste fluid may arrived at the next stop because important substances still has to be reabsorbed back to the blood (Wagman, 1992). The rest which are waste products continue their journey to the collecting tubules until they enter the renal pelvis where they will spend some of their time. The waste liquid referred to as urine is slowly collected to the bladder to be expelled out of the body when it reaches its maximum amount via the ureters.

Essay on Effectiveness of Authors Presentation Essay Example for Free

Essay on Effectiveness of Authors Presentation Essay A history teacher wants to teach history. How would he/she do this? There are many different ways to present history to a wide variety of audience members. People understand and interpret information all on a different level because of the way an author would present it, whether it be through an article or picture. There are many formats as to which there could be information presented articles, videos, poems, and artwork. Three things that are essential to answering the question above: the genre of the information, knowing the audience, and containing the subject knowledge. The presentation must contain the above components to affect ones understanding of history in the most effective way. Despite all this, one must remember that no one format shows history from every perspective. Therefore, each person will understand history in a different manner, according to the format of the presentation. First and foremost, the information, also known as the subject knowledge, itself is a key concept to an authors presentation, and therefore, ones understanding of history. Without the correct subject knowledge, the presentation would be of no use since it would not be targeting the goal of understanding history. The author should also make sure the information is relevant to the topic, which in this case is history, or else the audience will lose interest and get bored with the presentation. The information should also be expressed throughout the entire presentation to make the most meaningful impact on the audience. One of the Common Core standards for critical thinking is to provide the most appropriate and relevant information/data and that the subject knowledge be interpreted comprehensively. If it’s a school requirement, shouldn’t it be performed during presentations as well? The presentation should also appeal to the authors audience for maximum effect and approval. The audience can be a certain target (such as senior citizens) or a generalization for all age groups. The author would need to keep in mind what he/she is trying to achieve and how he/she could attract the target audience. It is extremely important in this case, to have information relevant to that age group. For example, would a teacher talk about genocide in Sudan to first graders? Information is available through different mediums and in this case, it would be genres. All information is given through literary text, non-fiction text, videos, and artwork. Literary text, usually a poem or short story, allows the author to pursue a more emotional relationship with the audience. It would therefore, be able to affect the more emotional aspect of any event in history. One such example is the poem, The Fall of Fort Sumter. It described the Confederate point of view and the feelings they harbored against the North. The fleet turned slowly southward; we saw the last ship go, We had saved old Carolina from the insults of the foe, is a part of the stanza in the poem and expressed Confederate feelings towards the Union. Through this medium, the audience would be able to connect on a deeper level to the context. Non-fiction texts allow for a quick, brief summary all the way to a deep, well thought-out analysis on a historical event. These texts are usually the most informative and straight-forward in a presentation. They also are able to provide a more realistic tone to the writing. An example is â€Å"The Battle of Fort Sumter†. It had an analysis on the entire battle from a neutral point of view. Sometimes, authors will take sides and state their opinion on a particular subject. Videos provide visual and auditory aids for the audience, it combines the elements of non-fiction text and artwork at the same time. Videos can enhance the learning experience of those who like combined formats. One such example is the â€Å"Fort Sumter Animated Map† from the Civil War Trust Fund website. It showed an animated battle simulation of Fort Sumter and the Union garrison stationed there. Artwork enables visual learners to use their eyes to communicate the feeling stored inside paintings and other works of art. Akin to literary text, it connects more emotionally and allows the audience to visualize and imagine the scene or place in history. An example is the Currier and Ives painting of Fort Sumter. It showed exploding mortars and Confederate batteries firing upon the glorious Fort Sumter in the middle of the Charleston Harbor. The criteria for a presentation should include the correct subject knowledge, appropriate target audience, and different genres of the event in history. Each medium if presentation present and offers insight on different perspectives. For example, take the issue of the American dream. Some say its only a legacy of the past from the Founding Fathers era while others say that it is stronger than ever. If one were only to read an informational text full of opinion that the American dream is gone, one could only see from one perspective or point of view. He/she would only understand one side of the issue. If however, he/she read another informational article supporting the American dream, then one could see both verdicts on an issue and understand them. To answer the essay question, everyone can have a different perspective on the same issue, depending on the genres in an authors presentation.

Building Foundations for The Future Essay -- Education Teaching Teache

Building Foundations for The Future When I think of how my teaching style will be one day, a particular parable comes to mind that I have known since my childhood days. In the Bible, in the book of Matthew, Peter and several other fishermen were fishing out on the ocean one night when from far out in the distance, they could see a man walking on the water toward them. The man was Jesus. Peter was afraid that the figure wasn’t Jesus, but instead a spirit, so Jesus told Peter to get out of the boat and walk over to him. So Peter got out, and walked on the water over to Jesus. But then, the wind began to blow furiously, causing Peter to become afraid. He looked down, began to sink, and then screamed out to Jesus to help him. Immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand and caught Peter, and said â€Å"O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?† (Matt. 14:31). Most children today are wanting to learn, but from time to time there is an obstacle on their path toward knowledge that they cannot overcome on their own. When faced with such obstacles, whether it is the divorce of their parents, or continually failing in one certain subject, they usually become scared and just need someone to cry â€Å"Help!† to. Just as Jesus immediately helped Peter, I want to immediately help those students that are doubting that they can overcome something. I do not want my students to ever doubt that they can do something, and eventually become too reluctant to even try anymore just because they failed a time or two. I want to be there to assure my students that they can do anything they put their minds to, and I’ll be there to help them along the way. I believe that children are one of God’s gifts on thi... ...le the latter may not be as important as Math, English, Science, and Social Studies, they do still deserve a great deal of attention, because they work to the students’ benefit as well by making them a more well-rounded individual. My professional developmental plans consist of getting my K-6 Elementary Education Degree, and even possibly specializing in one subject area. I am still debating at the present time over whether or not to go for the specialization or not, but if I do I might specialize in Math. Also in my plans for after I graduate is the possibility of going for my Master’s Degree, so that I can become a Principal one day if I decide that I want to do that or not. But overall, I am still very undecided about my after-graduation plans. I am just really excited at the moment to be nearing the date of receiving my Teaching Degree!

She has that kind that of humor that would make me burst out. This was the first movie wherein she got the major role and the great thing is that she got the best actress award for this movie. Another reason is that the movie also has m oral lessons, lessons that would surely make your heart cry. I bet you should really watch this movie not just for fun but for simple lessons as well. Substance Abuse And The Family - 2399 Words

Section 1 Substance abuse, the abuse of drugs or alcohol, is known to have a lasting impact on members of the abuser’s family (Crosson-Tower, 2013). Ultimately there are two ways in which a family can experience the detrimental effects of substance abuse within the family system itself, and those ways are through either substance abuse on the parent’s behalf or substance abuse by the adolescents or children in the family unit (Crosson-Tower, 2013). Substance abuse can have many negative impacts on a family unit; the negative impacts are known to be emotionally, physically, and mentally damaging (Gruber Taylor, 2006). The exposure to substance abuse can occur in the early stages of childhood, according to research at least 10% of newborns are exposed to the abuse (Gruber Taylor, 2006). Research shows that there is correlation between substance abuse and both child neglect and maltreatment (Mendoza, 2013). Not only does substance abuse dull the parent’s ability to adequately care for their child, but it can lead to problems such as violence, neglect, and physical abuse in the family home (Crosson-Tower, 2013). According to Crosson-Tower (2013) 12% of the children live with a parent or guardian who abuses drugs or alcohol. The issue of dependency on drugs and alcohol has continued to increase in adults, adolescents, and even children (Crosson-Tower, 2013). The Importance Of A Well Rounded Education - 1232 Words

A well-rounded education is necessary in life starting at a young age. Children will be taught in a classroom as they receive a traditional education, or they will have an opportunity to reach their educational goals at home as a parent or guardian teaches. There are two basic ways of teaching a child. First, traditional teaching is taught in a public school system or a private school system along with other children of the same age and grade. These children are taught by a teacher who is paid by the school or the state, and have an education of at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. Second, Homeschooling is being taught within the child’s home and environment outside of the home to receive the same education. Traditional teachers will teach certain subjects or al subjects according to what grade level they teach. Homeschool teachers will teach all subjects. Whether children should be homeschooled or traditional schooled is a question that should b e answered by each individual. What does homeschool offer that traditional schooling cannot, and what can traditional schools give that homeschool will not provide? Freedom and flexibility, rest and relaxation and social interaction are some of the subjects that arise when thinking about which direction to take and what is best for your child. Smerge refused to move when officer Elias Voulgaris told him to go across the street to be in compliance with the Adjacent-Sidewalks Ordinance, which prohibits peddling on specific sidewalks adjacent to Wrigley Field. Smerge was ticketed and he then moved rather than risk arrest. He later sued, claiming that the city ordinance violates the First Amendment. Smerge did not have a peddlers’ license-badge and was not ticketed for lacking one. Lower Court Holdings: The district court declined to issue a preliminary injunction. Consulting Civil Construction Organizations

Question: Discuss about the Consulting Civil Construction Organizations. Answer: Introduction: CERA is one of the consulting civil construction organizations that has completed more than 500 projects and has 45 efficient and high skilled employees. However, the HR department of the CERA is highly effective to manage their experienced and skilled staff but somewhat the senior level staff thinks that their present HR function is not so much effective because they thinks that there are some problems in the strategy to decide the incentive and bonus for the employees. The senior level management thinks that their websites are stating about their guarding excellence but some of the senior level employee does not actually think that the performance and reward of their organization is linked with each other. It has been observed that the organization has some extraordinary talents but the senior level employee actually treat them like a school students. Senior managers treat their sub-ordinates regarding how they should get their job done to achieve the high level of intended outcome . However, this strategy do not extracts the fullest level of performance from the employees, along with that, they also provides based on the seniority. There is not any advantage that the younger level employees can get if they show more effective performance than the senior level employees (Coz, 2015). Therefore, there is high level of possibility that employees can be de-motivated to achieve those objectives that the organization set in front of them at the starting of the year. Moreover, providing excessive amount of money to the senior level that does not consider the performance level may lead to less amount of productivity. Therefore, by adding both the result it can be said that the overall performance level of the company can be reduced in the near future (Shields et al. 2015). Proposed solution: In the present days, the most of the issues that are faced by any business organization is related to the employee motivation. Employee motivation works amazingly to create highest level of performance for any company. However, the present HR strategy of CERA is effective but after sometimes they may face difficulties regarding employee performance and creation of effective level of performance for the employees. Therefore, in order to motivate the employees in highest extent, it is highly important to follow the performance per pay strategy (Subramony, 2013). Along with that, it is also recommended to them to provide a fixed level salary to all of the employee and after that they provide a bonus scheme based on the performance level of CERAs employee so that they can boost the employee performances. As stated by Boyd Salamin (2011), performance per pay motivates employee to provide higher level of effort, along with that, it also increases the capability among the employees. By imp lementing the performance per pay, CERA can achieve different types of advantages such as cost can be controlled due to not paying unnecessary wages to the employees. Along with that, performance per pay also effectively aligns the employees with the interests of any company and can help CERA to retain and attract skilled and experienced talents (Rowe, 2013). Moreover, it can provide a stake to the employees for the success of the company. However, there is one weakness of this strategy that performance per pay requires the regular maintenance, failure of which may generate ineffective results. Effectiveness of solution: Therefore, CERA must provide a fixed salary to employees and this fixed salary must be increased with the increasing level of experiences in their organization. After providing this salary they must develop an effective bonus scheme which must be provided to the employees irrespective of the experience level in the company and it must be provided to the employees based upon their performance (O'Donnell, 2012). However, it is highly recommended to the CERA to define the performance level at the initial level and then align their employee to achieve the performance level. In this case, they must provide some more bonuses to the senior level employees because they are associated with the higher level of responsibilities. Therefore, it can be said the total compensation strategy of the employees of CERA must be divided into two categories that is extrinsic and intrinsic rewards. Their direct reward scheme must include the basic and fixed wages of employees that should include the perform ance per pay as well as the adjustments regarding the cost for living. On the other hand, the indirect reward of the employees in CERA must include different protection programs such as the leave, prerequisites and services of the employees and absence that caused by the illness. Thus, including this programmes, CERA can be able to fix its reward schemes for encouraging and improving employee performance. Reference list: Boyd, B. K., Salamin, A. (2011). However, their distribution is limited by seasonal pack ice. Habitat. The main living environment for killer whales is open oceans but they can also be found in coastal waters as well. Migration. Killer whales are very important in the oceans because they cause much of the migration of many fish and other prey. The movements of the killer whale to and from certain areas cause the other prey to move as well. Population. The worldwide population of killer whales is unknown, however they are not endangered whatsoever. Specific populations in a few areas have been estimated in recent years and some areas of the Antarctic alone have about 180,000 killer whales. The population can be distinguished because killer whales travel in pods, or groups. The resident pods can vary from as few as five to as many as fifty whales. The transient pod size varies from one and seven individuals. Physical Characteristics: Size. Male killer whales average about twenty-two to twenty-seven feet and usually weigh between 8,000 and 12,000 pounds. The largest male ever recorded was thirty-two feet and weighed about 21,000 pounds. As a male approaches adulthood, it acquires the typical male characteristics: it gains weight, and its pectoral flippers, dorsal fin, and flukes grow larger than those of females. Female killer whales average about seventeen to twenty-four feet and usually weigh between 3,000 and 8,000 pounds. The largest female recorded was twenty-eight feet and weight about 15,000 pounds. Body Shape. The killer whale has a sleek, streamlined body. Its physical characteristics are adapted for life in an aquatic environment. Coloration. Killer whales are easily recognized by their distinct coloration. The dorsal surface and pectoral flippers are black, except for the area below and behind the dorsal fin. The ventral surface, lower jaw, and undersides of the tail flukes are mostly white and the undersides of the tail fluke are lined with black. A white eyespot is located just above and slightly behind each eye and a gray saddle is located behind the dorsal fin. The distinctive coloration of killer whales is a type of disruptive coloration, a camouflage in which the color pattern of an animal contradicts the animal's body shape. By the flickering, filtered sunlight of the sea, other animals may not recognize a killer whale as a potential predator. Thus, making it easy for the killer whale to get to its prey. Body Parts. A killer whale has distinct pectoral flippers, or forelimbs. They have the major skeletal elements of the forelimb's of land mammals, but they are foreshortened and modified. They are rounded and paddle-like and are used mainly to steer and, with the help of the flukes, to stop. The flukes are the lobe of the tail on a killer whale. They are flattened pads of tough, dense, fibrous connective tissue, completely without bone. A large male killer whale may have tail flukes measuring up to nine feet from tip to tip. All traces of hind limbs have disappeared except for two reduced, rod- shaped pelvic bones, which are buried deep in the body muscle. These reduced hind limbs are not connected to the vertebral column however. The dorsal fin, like the flukes, is made

CROSSING THE Great Plains Essays - Oregon Trail, Mormon Trail

CROSSING THE Great Plains The Oregon Trail was an overland emigrant route in the United States from the Missouri River to the Columbia River country, was the way to travel back in the 1840's through the 1860's. In 1843 the "Great Emigration" began and the west would never be the same after the out set of the travelers. The pioneers by wagon train did not, however, follow any single narrow route. In open country the different trains might spread out over a large area, only to converge again for river crossings, mountain passes. In time many alternate routes also developed. They originated at various places on the Missouri, although Independence were favorite starting points, the routes taken along with the wagon trails are the key points in which made it possible to travel west. Those starting from Independence followed the same route as the Santa Fe Trail for some 40 miles, then traveled to the Platte and generally followed that river to the North Platte and then the South Platte. Crossing the South Platte, the main trail followed the North Platte to Fort Laramie, then to the present Casper, Wyo. and through the mountains by the South Pass to the Colorado River. The travelers then went to Fort Bridger, from which the Mormon Trail continued to the Great Salt Lake, while the Oregon Trail went northwest across a divide to Fort Hall, on the Snake River. The California Trail branched off to the southwest, but the Oregon Trail continued to Fort Boise. From that point the travelers had to make the hard climb over the Blue Mountains. Once those were crossed, paths diverged somewhat; many went to Fort Walla Walla before proceeding down the south bank of the Columbia River, traversing the Columbia's gorge where it passes through the Cascade Mountains to the Willamett e Valley, where the early settlement centered. The end of the trail shifted as settlement spread. The mountain men were chiefly responsible for making the route known, and Thomas Fitzpatrick and James Bridger were renowned as guides. The first genuine emigrant train was that led by John Bidwell in 1841, half of which went to California, the rest proceeding from Fort Hall to Oregon. The first train of emigrants to reach Oregon was that led by Elijah White in 1842. In 1843 occurred the "Great Emigration" of more than 900 persons and more than 1,000 head of stock. By 1845 the emigrants reached a total of more than 3,000. Although it took the average train about six months to traverse the 2,000-mile route, the trail was used for many years. Travel gradually declined with the coming of the railroads, and the trail was abandoned in the 1870s. Many trail sites are now preserved in the Oregon National Historic Society. As the people traveled across the Great Plains and into the deserts they had some great obstacles to over come? But what kept them going was the new life they were ready to embark on, and embrace with open arms. All the hard work and effort that the Oregon Trail travelers put in would go down in history with America. Bibliography Bibliography 1) F.
